Field Experiences in Sport Administration, Coaching, Aquatics, and Corrections Tracks

Students who choose to major in Health and Physical Education with a focus on sport administration, coaching, aquatics, or corrections are required to complete a field experience in their area of emphasis. The internship covers a 12 week professional experience and involves participation in public and private agencies in settings where the participant is likely to find further employment. Every effort is made to assist the student in finding a valuable practical field experience which will facilitate the accomplishment of career goals.

In the past student field experiences have been completed in the following areas: Florida State University Football, strength training; US Olympic Training Center, facilities programming and administration; New York Athletic Club, assistant athletic director; Gold's Gym and Tennis Center, personal trainer; NFL Europe; Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference; Pittsburgh Penquins; Atlanta Falcons; Lancaster Department of Recreation, sports program coordinator; Buffalo YMCA, summer camp sports coordinator; CoresState Center, administrative assistant; Assistant High School Athletic Director; University of Maryland Football, administrative assistant; University Intramural Director; University Summer Sports Program Administrator; Summer Camp Sports Instructor and Administrative Assistant; YMCA Fitness Program Coordinator; U.S. Health Care, corporate health and fitness instructor; Minor League Baseball, administrative assistant; Federal and State Prison, athletic and recreation activities coordinator.

Career Options: Students pursuing these non-teaching options are well prepared for a variety of careers related to health, physical education, recreation and athletics. Many choose to enter the job market immediately upon graduation, while others go on to pursue advanced degrees in their chosen specialty.
