Zimmerli Gymnasium
(Elizabeth K. Zimmerli, Ed.D., director
of health and physical education, 1946-1966) Completed in 1970, the gymnasium contains
three teaching stations, a swimming pool, racquetball court, equipment room, locker/shower facilities, plus offices
for the Department of Health and Physical Education and classrooms.
Thomas Field House
Named for David W. Thomas, M.D., alumnus '06, trustee, this
facility was built in 1935, completely renovated in 1984, this
building serves as the main athletic complex on campus.
It is used for teaching of
physical education classes,
sport practices and competition, and intramural activities. The
Department of Athletics, a
2500 seat arena used for basketball and volleyball games,
wrestling and boxing matches, a large wrestling room, athletic
training rooms, press box, faculty and intercollegiate sports'
offices are all located here.
Jack Stadium
(Hubert H. Jack, professor of health and physical education,
coach of football and wrestling, 1943-1968) Completed in 1975,
the football field, locker rooms, and an all-weather
track provide facilities
for instructional, intramural, and intercollegiate programs. A
capital improvement project added an artificial turf surface to
the field, which was then renamed the Charlotte T. Smith
field in honor of the former professor and field hockey
coach. The stadium complex also features an eight lane track and
complete lighting system.
