Course Augmentation Instructions

Honors students may satisfy honors course requirements by taking a non-honors course individually augmented for honors credit. The augmentation should involve an individualized project with a significant writing component. It may involve laboratory or field research or a performance. The augmentation project must be agreed to by the student and the instructor and be approved by the Honors Director. In some cases projects may be an addition to regular course requirements; in others they may be an expansion of an existing requirement.

Students are encouraged to use augmentations to prepare for a Capstone Project. Some augmentations will help a student explore possible Capstone topics. Once a Capstone topic has been identified, augmentations should be used to begin work on the project.

Check out the abstracts to see what students have done so far!

If you wish to do an augmentation:

1. You will need to go to: http://www.lhup.edu/honors/forms/augmentation_proposal.htm and print out the form.

2. Go to the professor of the class and have him/her sign the form after discussing your proposal.

3. You will need to submit the proposal to Dr. McGinn. You will need the proposal form, with all signatures, along with a brief description of the project (All necessary information is on the proposal form.)

Once those things are done, you will be able to begin. Proposals must be submitted to Dr. McGinn in a timely manner, within the first few weeks of the semester.

When your augmentation is complete:

1. You will need to go to: http://www.lhup.edu/honors/forms/augmentation_completion.htm and print out the form.

2. This form will need to be signed by the professor and then turned into Dr. McGinn ALONG WITH the paper you wrote for your project/or any related materials.

3. You also need to complete a Project Abstract that gives an overview of your augmentation. (All necessary information is on the proposal form.)

This information needs to be handed in as soon as the project has been accepted by your professor so that proper credit can be given to you.
