Meet Sandra Barney, Ph.D.

Professional interests and activities:

Dr. Barney's previous research, and book and early articles, were on gender and the professionalization of medicine in Appalachia during the Progressive Era. She is now pursuing two projects. One is on sexuality and parenting in the English-speaking countries of the North Atlantic Basin. The other is on the history and distribution of  preschool enrichment programs.

"I wish Honors students were more interested in ideas than grades. I want them to be less concerned about having "the facts" presented to them and more interested in discovering and exploring ideas. I would like them to appreciate the value of reading and to realize that reciting information is not true learning."
