Meet James Bean, Ph.D.
Professional interests and activities: A member of Rotary International, he is active in issues of peace and justice and is an adviser to the LHU Rotaract Club. He is a proponent of service learning and is a co-founder of the State System Service Learning Alliance, a consortium of fourteen universities that share resources and hold conferences on community service learning for students in primary, secondary and collegiate education. In the past several years he has traveled to Bangladesh, Morocco and Tunisia with Dr. Zakir Hossain to give workshops on leadership development to University administrators and faculty at our sister universities in those countries. Dr. Bean is also the originator of the Lock Haven University Leadership Studies Minor Program. HONR180: Introductory Psychology Dr. Bean approaches the Honors Psychology course as an opportunity to develop leadership skills and team building in Honors students. In addition to studying the foundation knowledge base in introductory psychology, students perform action research with clients on a variety of problem areas of community and university life, create a conference for student paper presentations, and edit a journal of worthy articles on “maladies and marvels of modern society.” Personal interests and activities: Dr. Bean enjoys traveling abroad, has an enduring interest in the collection of original art, loves photography, and cooking, and has been known to play the guitar and keyboard for fun and entertainment. |
