Meet Dr. Joan Whitman Hoff
Professional interests and activities: My primary research interests are in the areas of applied ethics and social philosophy. I have co-authored two books in introductory philosophy, and I am actively engaged in writing two others. I have also published over two dozen essays on the topics of aesthetics, ethics, and social philosophy. I have served as interim director of the Honors Program and as Associate Director of the PA Canadian Studies Consortium. HONR101 Historical and Philosophical Studies The main objective of the course is to engage in critical thinking about human issues. I will be stressing the importance of community and the philosophical claim that we need to engage in dialogue with others in order to be fully human, which is a life long process. Personal interests and activities: I am a second degree blue belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I have an interest in photography and love dancing, music, and warm, breezy blue-skied days. I also enjoy hiking, reading, and boating. I love to travel and have spent time in Africa, France, England, Ireland, Iceland, Mexico and Canada. |
