Access the World
(Johnny
Blough, Josh Ketchum, and Kat Birdsey)
|
|
The United States is part of a global
community of integrated economics, culture, and politics. In order to
participate in this community responsibly and humanely, it is essential
that Americans be aware of international conflicts and issues in which
they participate and influence. Access the World is meant to engage the
Lock Haven Community and Honors Program in learning and questioning
international issues and relationships through discussion and active
listening. |
| Arts and
Crafts
(Kim Cox)
|
|
In this group
we will do a different craft every week that
is oriented around the school as well as the holiday or season at hand.
In the past we have also tried to work in different gifts because it is
hard to live away from school, not have a job, and then try to get
Christmas presents for your parents and family. Feel free to come see
what we’re all about! |
| Board
Game Strategies
(Joe
Bennett and Sarah Kerner)
|
|
Board Game Strategies is away to kick
back and relax while putting your skills to the test! Sometimes we play
games where you can learn all sorts of wacky things, such as Trivial
Pursuit, and other games where there is some strategy other then
knowledge. Many wouldn’t think of strategy being involved with board
games, but if you think about it there is always some technique players
develop to win. If you think you have what it takes, we challenge you
to come give it a shot! |
| Basics of
Imaginative Writing
(Kelly Wood)
|
Online Group; Submissions due by
Friday at noon; 1 hour group |
The Basics of
Imaginative Writing activity group is designed to provide students with
very busy schedules or those with a love for creative writing an
opportunity to complete their weekly hour without a scheduled “meeting
time”. The group requires the participants to creatively respond to a
variety of fun and thought provoking prompts. This group is completed
via email, making it very convenient for students to complete the
prompts. As long as the prompts are completed on time (Fridays at noon)
and follow all directions, including length of response (typically about
two pages), students will complete their hour requirement. |
|
Edibility
(Laura
Nwranski and Ciara Connally)
|

will be learning the art of
how to make quick and easy snacks and dinners. Each week a new
appetizer, dinner, desert, or beverage will be made. The recipes will
only consist of a few items and they will take under 45 min to make.
Each member will also be able to contribute with their own ideas. As we
develop each new and delicious treat, each member will be compiling a
recipe book filled with all of the things we've made. |

Educational Happenings
(Danielle Jacukowicz) |
|
In Educational
Happenings we will discuss the major issues in education today (NCLB,
Affirmative Action, Federal Aid, etc). We will also discuss the teacher
education requirements at Lock Haven University such as Block,
portfolios, and working in local schools. Speakers may be implemented
during the semester to talk about these issues. The group will evolve
based on member interests, this group is for you! All education majors
are encouraged to attend, as well as undeclared students seeking to find
their passion. Don’t let the title stop you though! We are all college
students, so education affects each one of us which means everyone, no
matter the major, has the potential to learn a great deal from this
group. |
| Food,
Fashion, and Fitness (Caroline P. Sweeney
and Abby Lawless) |
|
Food, Fashion, and
Fitness is a group designed to incorporate the basic aspects of a
healthy and balanced college student’s life. Topics like healthy food
options, proper exercise regimens, and the latest fashions will be
discussed and discovered. Each week the leaders will choose one of the
“F’s” to discuss or act upon, and the group members will learn about the
topics in many different ways, through discussion on certain topics,

on activities. |
| Harry
Potter
(Tiff Guiser)
|

Do you love
Harry Potter? Or do you hate him? This semester we will be discussing

watching the accompanying movies with a trip to see the 6th
movie when it is released in November. Come and discuss the books and
why you love or hate them. Whether you have loved Harry Potter since
the 1st book or maybe you only discovered him recently.
Let’s try to figure out why these books are so popular and have fun
while doing it! |

International and American Classical Films
(Brianne
Alecci and Amanda Sportelli) |
|
International and
American Film Classics is meant to challenge students’ thinking through
the use of film. By watching films made in other nations and other
decades, students will be able to experience different cultures,
beliefs, and views without ever leaving the country (or jumping the time
space continuum). Through the discussion of the movie, they will also
gain new perspectives, not only of another country and decade, but also
of how their fellow students feel. These alternative perspectives will
give students a well-rounded view of the world allowing them to make
informed decisions on the many issues of the world. |

Learning Through Dancing
(Nicole Cozzi) |
|
In this group
honors students will learn about different time eras and cultures
through the dancing style of the time from African tribal dance to the
waltz. With each dance style, the students’ minds will open to
different cultures. Each dance will take about two weeks each to learn
and practice. While teaching the dance I will explain the importance of
it in the society it came from and its origins. I have been exposed to
many different types of dancing and have learned greatly from my
experiences. Lastly, I believe my group will provide physical exercise,
fun and a great learning experience. |
|
Physical Activity and Relaxation Fun
(Mary
Hawryschuk and Becky Rocco) |

Physical Activity
and Relaxation Fun will not only have meetings that involve exercise but
there will also be meetings where we will work on relaxation drills,
such as yoga. Some example activities include games such as football,
basketball, or dodge-ball; also during nice weather we plan on having
meetings outside, which include brisk walks along the dike, volleyball
or tennis. Each week there will be a new activity and from there we will
see what activities are the favorites. So come take a break from the
stress of classes and school work and come spend an hour with us! |

UN Pathways (Josh
Ketchum) |
|
In this group we
will discuss issues relevant to the UN conference topics. All
discussions will focus on current events and some history may be
discussed to understand a particular issue. On conference days, we will
meet, and we have the opportunity to participate in the actual video
conference. This group is a good way to introduce people to events and
issues going on in the world that many people are unfamiliar with. The
conference topics are usually very interesting and always have an impact
on everybody in one form or another. |
