Last Lecture Speaker Series

 

The Last Lecture Speaker Series, started in the spring of 2011, is held once per semester and gives one distinguished LHU professor the chance to speak to students as if it was the last time they were ever to have the opportunity to do so.  The honored lecturer's are given one sole prompt: "If you had one last chance to address a group of students, what would you say to them?"  The premise of this series is to allow the speaker to share their life stories, experiences, trials, tribulatoins, and wisdom in a way that can positively impact the students they are addressing.

The Last Lecture Speaker Series is based off the New-York Times Best-Selling book The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch.  Pausch's book is based around his "Last Lecture" given at Carnegie Mellon University in 2007.  Only a month before Pausch gave his lecture, he recieved word that the Pancreatic Cancer he was battling was terminal.  He passed away in July of 2008.  For more information on Randy Pausch and his book, please visit The Last Lecture Website.

The LHU Global Honors Program invites one current or retired LHU Professor to give a Last Lecture each semester.  The Lecture is typicall held the week after Thanksgiving in the fall semester and during April in the spring semester, and is one of the most highly attended Academic Events of the semester.  Below is more information on all previous lectures.  For any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at honors_program@lhup.edu.

Honored Lecturer for Fall 2012 Announced - Mrs. Kathy Richards

 

The honored lecturer for the 4th installment of the Last Lecture Speaker Seires to be held in the fall 2012 is Mrs. Kathy Richards, Associate Professor of Educaiton at LHU.  Mrs. Richards has 35 years of experience teaching at the middle, secondary, and college levels.  She is a long-standing member of the LHU Honors Committee and has twice served as Interim Director of the Global Honors Program, most recently in 2008-2009.  Her Last Lecture will be entitled "I've had the time of my life.....teaching...learning......and living for more than half a century!!"   The Lecture will be held on Wednesday, November 28 at 6:30 PM in the Greenberg Auditorium of the Heath Professions Building.  We hope you will join us for what promises to be a great event.
