Welcome to the LHU Global Honors Program!
Greetings!
As the new Interim Director of the Global Honors Program, I'd like to let you know a little history about my background and of course my involvement with the Honors Program. My hometown is Knox, PA (near Clarion). My home is now just outside of Lock Haven. I received my B.S. in Chemistry from Gannon University in 1991 and my Ph.D. in Chemistry from Duquesne University in 2000. I was hired as a Biochemistry professor at LHU in Fall 2000. Besides biochemistry, I also teach Chemistry of Nutrition, Introduction to Organic Chemistry and on occasion, Organic Chemistry.
I have served on the Honors committee for nearly 10 years. As a committee member, I have chaired the committee, participated in the selection of PASSHE Summer Honors candidates, and reviewed prospective freshmen applications. As a faculty member, I have sponsored augmentations in some of the courses I teach and served as a sponsor or second reader for capstone projects in the sciences. I also have an active role within the Nano Program and the NSF Nanoscholar’s grant.
I recently finished a three year term as chair of the Department of Chemistry. I look forward to the start of my twelfth year at LHU and the excitement that this new position holds in store for me.If you have questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Joanie, Chris, Caroline, Brent, and Shelli will be helping me get up to speed. Likewise, I know that all of you will be helping me learn the ropes. Thanks for your patience during my “training” period.
Good luck on a successful and memorable academic year at the Haven.
Regards,
Dr. Jackie Whitling
Interim Director, the LHU Global Honors Program
