The Global Honors Program Committee
The Honors Committee oversees and evaluates program operations of the Honors Program. Five members of the faculty are elected by the faculty for overlapping two-year terms. There is one member from each of the three areas [humanities, social sciences and natural sciences] in Arts & Sciences and two members from Education & Human Services.
Some responsibilities of the Honors Committee:
- to consider and recommend to the Curriculum Committee changes in program policies
- to consider all syllabi for proposed Honors courses forwarded by departments and recommend to the appropriate college council.
- to work with the Director of the Honors Program in the recruitment and selection of faculty and specific course offerings, in the observation and evaluation of courses, in the recruitment and selection of students, in the planning of activities, and in the evaluation of the program.

Jackie Whitling, Chemistry Dept., Chair
Years at LHU: 9+
Department: Chemistry
Education: Ph.D. Chemistry 2000 Duquesne University, B.S. Chemistry 1991 Gannon University
Courses taught: Biochemistry I & II, Chemistry of Nutrition, Introduction to Organic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry
Professional Interests: My research interests include chemistry of art, kinetic studies of various biochemical enzymes, and a variety of bionanoscience projects, including nano-targeted delivery systems. The latter project involves liposomes, nanometer sized biological vesicles that can cross the blood-brain barrier. Liposmes can also be "tagged" to target a specific type of cell and therefore are useful carriers for delivery of drugs or imaging agents to a targeted area of the body. Also, I am involved in several professional organizations including the American Chemical Society, AAUW, and Phi Kappa Phi. I have served as advisor of Phi Sigma Pi for 8+ years and have served as co-advisor for LHU's Chemistry and Nanotechnology Club.
Personal Interests: I am a member of two choirs and a church cantor. I also love camping and canoeing. Last year, I tried kayaking for the first time and enjoyed it very much. I am actively involved in the community and serve as secretary of the service organization, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
