·  UNIVERSITY HONORS (21 credit hours)

Students entering as freshmen take four Honors courses their first year, fulfilling general education requirements in composition, literature, philosophy and world history.  In succeeding years students earn a minimum of nine additional Honors credit hours through a combination of Honors courses and augmented non-Honors courses.  Minimum GPA: 3.2.

·  UNIVERSITY HONORS WITH DISTINCTION (27 credit hours)

Students complete a minimum of 27 Honors credits including an Honors Capstone Project.  Minimum GPA: 3.2.

·  FIRST YEAR EXCELLENCE (12 credit hours)

Freshmen take two general education courses each semester of their first year, satisfying requirements in composition, literature, philosophy and world history.  Minimum GPA: 3.0.  Students completing FYE with GPA of 3.2 or higher may enter University Honors.

·  CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Honors students are responsible for organizing and participating in a variety of co-curricular activities.  All students must contribute two hours per week to Honors Program activities (4 hours for first-semester University Honors students and 3 hours for first-semester FYE students).

SELECTION AND STANDARDS

Entering freshmen are selected on the basis of high school grades, SAT scores, essays, recommendations, and high school activities.  Typically, the middle half of the freshman class has high school class standings between the 80th and 95th percentiles and combined SATs between 1100 and 1250 (ACT 24 – 28).

Current LHU students who have completed 1-4 semesters of coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.2 may apply for admission to University Honors.  Transfer applications are welcomed, and credit may be awarded for honors courses taken at other institutions.  Applications may be completed online.
