Monday
iBroadway
–
Ellen Adams – Mondays @ 1:25
For anyone who loves watching, listening or
singing-along to musicals. This group plans on looking
at some of the best of broadway, with best selling
broadway hits such as The Phantom of the Opera and
Chicago as well as other non-traditional musicals, such
as Moulin Rouge! and Across the Universe. Not only will
we watch musicals, but there will be a variety of
excerpts from various non-movie musicals, which we will
listen to, like Les Miserables. Plan on learning and
comparing movie musicals to their broadway counterparts,
as well as hearing from some of the biggest broadway
stars. Other fun activities planned are a small Disney
Fest, a Rocky Horror Picture Show dress up day, and
classic musical favorites, such as The Wizard of Oz and
The Sound of Music.
The Occasional Word -
Rachael Nines
– Mondays @ 2:30
We are hoping to turn the Occasional Word newsletter
into a regular, more readable piece of University
Honor’s literature. In the attempt to motivate more
students to actively engage, I thought we could have a
newspaper type of set-up where students could get an
Activity hour to come to a meeting, be
assigned/volunteer for a topic, write about it, and turn
it in (to obtain the hour). It would also make a more
fun, interactive experience associated with our
newsletter and possibly do more to actually get the word
out there with posters, fliers, perhaps competitions,
etc.
Tuesday
Fresh & Fit -
Brittany Masteller and Jordan Bright – Tuesdays @ 1:00
This group is designed to learn about different
nutritional habits and exercise regimens to help
students stay fit. Some weeks the group will be doing
physical activities and others will be focused on
healthy living and eating habits. The focus will be
mainly on exercise and nutrition but other topics
associated with these may also be used.
Computer Q&A
- Richard De Luca – Tuesdays @ 4:00
This is a group where people
can learn different computer-related skills. Computer
constantly running slow? Crashing and have no idea what
to do? Have to call someone else to help you all the
time? Come here to learn basic fixes to make your
compute run better, learn something simple as creating
and sending yourself free ringtones, whatever the group
wants to learn.
Wednesday
Old School Outdoor
Awesomeness -
Kaitlyn Roberts and Devon Juliano – Wednesdays @ 2:30
Remember back in the day when you used to play Kick
the Can, Red Rover, Release, and Capture the Flag? Well
you can recapture those memories by joining this group
and participating in all of the fun activities that we
have to offer. We’ll play something different every
week, and discuss the history and origins of the games.
Otaku Mania!
- Nikkita Bechdel –
Wednesdays @ 1:25
Learn about friendship and other languages through
anime and manga formats. Learn about foreign cultures,
types of creativity, and the differences of age
appropriate anime. One is never too old for
‘cartoons.’ This is a way for relaxation even through
discussion.
Thursday
Access the World –
Mike Mehrazar and Brent Barge – Thursdays @ 3:30
The United States is part of a global community of
integrated economics, culture, and politics. In order to
participate in this community responsibly and humanely,
it is essential that Americans be aware of international
conflicts and issues in which they participate and
influence. Access the World is meant to engage the Lock
Haven Community and Honors Program in learning and
questioning international issues and relationships
through discussion and active listening.
Arts and Crafts
– Amanda Hoffman – Thursdays @ 3:30
In this group we will do a different craft every
week that is oriented around the school as well as the
holiday or season at hand. In the past we have also
tried to work in different gifts because it is hard to
live away from school, not have a job, and then try to
get Christmas presents for your parents and family.
Feel free to come see what we’re all about!
Pump You Up! -
Chris Carroll and
Beth Zalno – Thursdays @ 4:00
Physical Activity and Relaxation is a group in which
we will try and get an hour of physical activity in each
week. Sometimes during the week we find ourselves
overwhelmed with work and stressed out, papers and
studying for exams build up and we have no time to go to
the rec even though we really want to. Physical Fitness
and Relaxation will take care of this problem. We will
do an hour of physical activity/ relaxation exercises
each week to relieve stress and have fun!!!
Friday
The Blue Note -
Zane Cohick – Fridays @ 1:25
Music and society focuses on the development of a
greater appreciation of music through active listening
and analysis. Activities include: album and artist
active listening sessions and discussions, lyric
structure and writing workshops, relaxation through
music, experimentation with the “Mozart Effect” (i.e.
can it help with thinking, reading, and homework?),
music history, and music in culture.
Games and
Zugzwang
– Jenn May and Brittany Knight – Fridays @ 1:00
By playing a different game every week, our group will
bond, relax and use our minds. Each week will feature a
different indoor game, including board games, card games
and interactive games in a relaxed environment. Ideas
include games of charades, Apples to Apples, Catch
Phrase and Cranium, etc. The games each week will be
pre-planned and announced, but flexible based on the
group's interests. In the spring, when the weather
permits, games may be moved outside. The focus will be
to allow students to participate in a group that is
engaging, but at the same time a reprieve from the
stresses of college academics.
International Film Series
– Colby Hepner
– Fridays @ 3:35, see announcements for location
International Video Series is meant to challenge
students’ thinking through the use of film. By watching
films made in other nations, students will be able to
experience different cultures, beliefs, and views
without ever leaving the country. Through the
discussion of the movie, they will also gain new
perspectives, not only of another country, but also of
how their fellow students feel. These alternative
perspectives will give students a well-rounded view of
the world allowing them to make informed decisions on
the many issues of the world.
Video Games
– Ryan Hemm and Reggie
Pinckney – Fridays @ 2:30
The Video Game club is a group of people that would
get together and play video games. What is not know to
people is that video games, like board games, take a lot
of strategy and tactics to learn the skills needed to
complete a level or to continue with the game. This
groups meeting will forward into not only talking about
certain types or games such as adventure games but also
active games such as Wii sports. We will look into
different types of games and what makes them so
appealing to different members. Also in this group after
talking about these games, we can experience the games
at the end of meeting to end the fun. The group is a way
to have honors students relax while having fun at the
same time.
Online
Basics of Imaginative
Writing (BIW)
– Christina Briggs & Taylor Potts – Deadline is
Friday @ 12:00
The Basics of Imaginative Writing activity group is
designed to provide students with very busy schedules or
those with a love for creative writing with an
opportunity to complete their weekly hour without being
bogged down with a scheduled “meeting time”. The group
requires the participants to creatively respond to a
variety of fun and thought provoking prompts. This group
is completed via email, making it very convenient for
students to complete the prompts. As long as the prompts
are completed on time (Fridays at noon) and follow all
directions, including length of response, students will
complete their hour requirement.
Letters to
the Editor-
Ciara Connally –
Deadline is Friday @
12:00
Letters to the Editor would be an alternative to the BIW
where students are not asked to engage in creative
writing but to respond to a current event or to write a
position statement similar to those seen in letters to
the editor. This group would challenge participants to
think critically. The responses would be required to be
at least one page in length single spaced. This group is
online and responses will be due Thursdays at 5pm each
week.
