Pump You Up!--Chris Carroll and Beth Zalno-

Tuesdays @ 4:00

See announcements for location

Physical Activity and Relaxation is a group in which we will try and get an hour of physical activity in each week. Sometimes during the week we find ourselves overwhelmed with work and stressed out, papers and studying for exams build up and we have no time to go to the rec even though we really want to. Physical Fitness and Relaxation will take care of this problem. We will do an hour of physical activity/ relaxation exercises each week to relieve stress and have fun!!!

Religious Studies
-
Jess Johnston and Charlotte Cox –
Thursdays @ 1:00

Honors House

We will be taking topics of interest to college students and looking at comparable passages in the Bible to relate them to religious ideas.  Then we will take the topics and make them applicable to society today and how they impact our lives.

The Blue Note - Zane Cohick – Tuesdays @ 1:30

Honors House

Music and society focuses on the development of a greater appreciation of music through active listening and analysis. Activities include: album and artist active listening sessions and discussions, lyric structure and writing workshops, relaxation through music, experimentation with the “Mozart Effect” (i.e. can it help with thinking, reading, and homework?), music history, and music in culture.

Access the World
– Mike Mehrazar –
Tuesdays @ 2:00

Honors House

The United States is part of a global community of integrated economics, culture, and politics. In order to participate in this community responsibly and humanely, it is essential that Americans be aware of international conflicts and issues in which they participate and influence. Access the World is meant to engage the Lock Haven Community and Honors Program in learning and questioning international issues and relationships through discussion and active listening.

Oh Snap!
-
Johnny Blough –
Wednesdays @ 11:15

Honors House

If you have any interest at all in photography, this group is for you! Oh Snap! attempts to demystify the world of digital photography by engaging honors students in a 15 week hands-on workshop. Materials, techniques, and basic elements of photographing and photo editing will be examined. Elements of art, such as shape, lines, perspective, color, texture, etc. will also be discussed. Participants of this group will take photos, edit photos, and participate in critiques of their work and the creations of others. You don’t need a fancy digital SLR camera to join; any digital camera will suffice. Most importantly, this group will be geared towards helping YOU learn how to take good photos. As such, the activities will be structured around your interest and skill level. So are you ready to take some awesome photos?

Awesome Old School Sports
-
Kaitlyn Roberts and Devon Juliano –
Wednesdays @1:25

See announcements for location

Remember back in the day when you used to play Kick the Can, Red Rover, Release, and Capture the Flag? Well you can recapture those memories by joining this group and participating in all of the fun activities that we have to offer. We’ll play something different every week, and discuss the history and origins of the games.

What’s News? - Joe Stender –  Thursdays @ 12:30

Honors House

In “What’s News?” students will have the opportunity to learn about the news industry, by learning the skill of news writing and could have the opportunity to go out in the field and write their own story.  The stories that are produced in this group have the chance of being published in the Eagle Eye, the LHU student newspaper.

The Occasional Word
-
Rachael Nines –
 Thursdays @ 1:30

Honors House

OW Online

We are hoping to turn the Occasional Word newsletter into a regular, more readable piece of University Honor’s literature.  In the attempt to motivate more students to actively engage, I thought we could have a newspaper type of set-up where students could get an Activity hour to come to a meeting, be assigned/volunteer for a topic, write about it, and turn it in (to obtain the hour).  It would also make a more fun, interactive experience associated with our newsletter and possibly do more to actually get the word out there with posters, fliers, perhaps competitions, etc.

Arts and Crafts
– Amanda Hoffman and Mariah Castrogiovanni –
Thursdays @ 2:00

Honors House

In this group we will do a different craft every week that is oriented around the school as well as the holiday or season at hand.  In the past we have also tried to work in different gifts because it is hard to live away from school, not have a job, and then try to get Christmas presents for your parents and family.  Feel free to come see what we’re all about!

Fresh & Fit
-
Brittany Masteller and Jordan Bright –
 Thursdays @ 4:00

Honors House

This group is designed to learn about different nutritional habits and exercise regimens to help students stay fit. Some weeks the group will be doing physical activities and others will be focused on healthy living and eating habits. The focus will be mainly on exercise and nutrition but other topics associated with these may also be used.

Basics of Imaginative Writing (BIW) - Kelly Wood –

 Deadline is Thursday @ 5:00

This week's prompt

The Basics of Imaginative Writing activity group is designed to provide students with very busy schedules or those with a love for creative writing with an opportunity to complete their weekly hour without being bogged down with a scheduled “meeting time”. The group requires the participants to creatively respond to a variety of fun and thought provoking prompts. This group is completed via email, making it very convenient for students to complete the prompts. As long as the prompts are completed on time (Fridays at noon) and follow all directions, including length of response, students will complete their hour requirement.

Video Game Strategies
– Ryan Hemm –
 Fridays @ 12:20

Honors House

What is not well-known to people is that video games, like board games, take a lot of strategy and tactics to learn the skills needed to complete a level or to continue with the game. This groups meeting will forward into not only talking about certain types or games such as adventure games but also active games such as Wii sports. We will look into different types of games and what makes them so appealing to different members.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (R3)
-
Caroline P. Sweeney –
Fridays @ 1:25

Honors House

There are thousands of ways to conserve, recycle and reuse.  This activity group will only be able to scratch the surface, but even a little bit of effort makes a difference.  Activities will focus on “going green” and will offer suggestions and tips to help you become environmentally friendly.  Activities will engage participants in hands on activities as well as movies and discussions.  Come help make the world a better place, Fridays from 1:25-2:25 in the Honors House.

Documentary Film Series
Chris Brittain –
Fridays @ 3:35,

See announcements for location

This film series will analyze documentaries of a variety of different subjects and topics ranging from global issues to domestic social problems. In order to obtain credit for the group, students must watch the film one week and then be prepared the next week to discuss and analyze the film. The purpose of the group is to engage students in a variety of different ways and to focus on topics that might otherwise have been ignored.
