Fall 2011
Dir Fremde (The Foreigner) Film Screening - November 10, 2011
The International Studies program, Women's Studies program, and HOPE Advisory Board are co-sponsoring a screening of the film Dir Fremde, a documentary on honor killings in a transnational context. The screening will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the HOPE Center. Following the film, there will be time for discussion.
Self-Defense Workshop - October 26, 2011
A self-defense workshop, led by Sue Feathers, will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 7 pm. This workshop will be free to the first 25 attendees who preregister, $5 for anyone who preregisters after the initial 25, and $10 at the door. To sign up, please visit the HOPE Center or call (570) 484-2111. The deadline for preregistration is October 18, 2011. The workshop is co-sponsored by the HOPE Center, President's Commission on the Status of Women, and Women's Studies program.
Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil - October 19, 2011
The Lock Haven University Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil, an event to raise awareness of domestic violence, will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 7:00 pm in Rogers Gym and is co-sponsored by the HOPE Center and the Women's Coalition. Speakers will discuss the impact of domestic violence on the individual and on society as a whole. Attendees will also be invited to share their own thoughts, concerns, and stories.
Silent Wonder Film Screening - October 13, 2011
The Environmental Studies program and HOPE Advisory Board are co-sponsoring a screening of the film Silent Wonder, a documentary on the life of Rachel Carson, activist, environmentalist, and ecofeminist. The screening will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the HOPE Center. Following the film, there will be time for discussion.
Telling Amy's Story Film Screening - October 12, 2011
The HOPE Advisory Board and the Women's Coalition are sponsoring a screening of the film Telling Amy's Story. The screening will begin at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the HOPE Center. Following the film, there will be time for discussion. Pizza will be provided.

Women's Support Group - Weekly; Wednesdays from 12:00 - 1:30 pm
The Women's Support Group, led by Claudia Hutchinson, will meet weekly in the HOPE Center on Wednesdays, from 12:00 - 1:30 pm.
Take Back the Night - April 5, 2011
The third annual Take Back the Night, an event to raise awareness of sexual assault, was held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 beginning at 7 pm on Russell Lawn. The event was held on Russell Lawn, with guest speakers/performers Lyrically Speaking and Distinguished Gentlemen, as well as Cindy Love (Clinton County Women's Center Director). Attendees were then invited to share their own thoughts, concerns, and stories before marching around Russell Lawn to symbolize taking back the night.
What's Love Got to Do with It Screening - February 17, 2011
The Campus Violence Prevention Program, in conjunction with the HOPE Center, will be hosting a screening of the film What's Love Got to Do with It. The screening will begin at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the HOPE Center. Following the film, there will be time for discussion.
Sleeping with the Enemy Screening - February 10, 2011
The Campus Violence Prevention Program, in conjunction with the HOPE Center, will be hosting a screening of the film Sleeping with the Enemy. The screening will begin at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the HOPE Center. Following the film, there will be time for discussion.

Gender 101 - October 6, 2010
A discussion of gender, gender identity, and gender expression will led by Dr. Tara Mitchell on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the HOPE Center. Differences between biological sex and gender will be addressed. Attendees will also be invited to share their own thoughts on gender in modern society.
Real Women Have Curves Film Screening - September 22, 2010
The HOPE Advisory Board and the Women's Coalition are sponsoring a screening of the filmReal Women Have Curves. The screening will begin at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the HOPE Center. Following the film, there will be time for discussion. Pizza will be provided.

Summer Happenings Camp
The Summer Happenings Camp will meet at the HOPE Center, in Room G-203, from July 12 - 23, 2010. The Camp focuses on the enrichment and development of young children and allows children to explore different issues during two week classes.

Take Back the Night - April 19, 2010
The second annual Take Back the Night, an event to raise awareness of sexual assault, was held on Monday, April 19, 2010 beginning at 7 pm. The event was held on Russell Lawn and co-sponsored with the Women's Coalition. Special guest speakers/attendees included Lyrically Speaking and Distinguished Gentlemen. Attendees were then invited to share their own thoughts, concerns, and stories before marching around Russell Lawn.
Let Her Voice Be Heard and Celebration of LHU Women - March 25, 2010
The HOPE Center co-sponsored "Let Her Voice Be Heard," a reading of writings by women, with the English Club and the Women's Studies Minor. The program took place on Thursday, March 25, 2010, in the HOPE Center (G-204 at East Campus). The event was free of charge and open to everyone (faculty, staff, students, and members of the community). In conjunction with "Let Her Voice Be Heard," there was a reception sponsored by the President's Commission on the Status of Women, Celebrating LHU Women, during which the nominees for the Woman of Distinction awards were announced. Celebrating LHU Women and "Let Her Voice Be Heard" began at 5:30 pm.
Liz Funk Presentation - March 17, 2010
The HOPE Center, with the Women's Coalition, President's Commission on the Status of Women, and Office of Social Equity, is co-sponsoring a presentation by Liz Funk, author ofSupergirls Speak Out. Liz Funk will be discussing her book, which addresses special pressures confronting young women. In particular, Liz has written about struggling with an eating disorder, and with the phenomenon of cyber-stalking. The presentation will be in the Hamblin Hall of Flags at 7:00 pm.
Thin Screening and Discussion - February 24, 2010
The Women's Coalition, with the HOPE Center, is sponsoring a screening of Thin, a documentary detailing the work of the Renfrew Center, a residential facility for women battling eating disorders. The documentary specifically follows four young women at Renfrew Center. Following the screening, there will be a discussion of the documentary. The screening begins at 7:00 pm in the HOPE Center. Refreshments will be provided.

Terror at Home Film Screening - October 14, 2009
The HOPE Advisory Board and the Women's Coalition are sponsoring a screening of the filmTerror at Home. The screening will begin at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2009.Terror at Home is a 60 minute documentary that follows several women who are experiencing domestic violence. Following the film, there will be time for discussion. Refreshments will be provided.

Take Back the Night - April 21, 2009
Take Back the Night, an event to raise awareness of sexual assault, was held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 beginning at 6 pm. The event began in front of Raub, with an opening by H.O.P.E. Advisory Board Chair Dr Elizabeth Gruber. Attendees were then invited to share their own thoughts, concerns, and stories. We then marched to the H.O.P.E. Center for a reception.
Women's Voices Women's Visions - March 24, 2009
Women's Voices Women's Visions, an event coordinated by Dr. Melinda Hodge, Dr. Patrizia Hoffman, Dr. Jackie Whitling, and Alice Alexandrescu will be held at East Campus, in Rooms B210 and B211. The event will include panel discussions, symposia presentations, and artistic (art, music, theatre, and dance) performances. Women's Voices Women's Visions will be an interdisciplinary event to address and celebrate issues critical to women in academics, the local community, and globally.
The H.O.P.E. Center Grand Opening - Feb 17, 2009
The H.O.P.E. Center opened its doors on February 17, 2009, with the goal of providing the Lock Haven University community with a space dedicated to empowerment, specifically the empowerment to address issues related to sexual assault, domestic violence, and relationship violence.
