2012-13 Room, Suite & Apartment Selection Process for Returning Students

This process applies only to returning students who currently live in on-campus housing.  Students new to LHU, along with any others, are assigned by the housing office during the month of July.

It is the responsibility of each returning student to follow the procedures listed below to be guaranteed a space in LHU on-campus residence halls – including Campus Village and the new Fairview Suites.

There are three easy to follow steps to the Room Selection Process:

Step #1: Pay your Housing Deposit

To begin the Room/Apartment Selection Process, a $100.00 housing deposit must be paid.  This deposit may be paid in 2 ways:

  1. Pre-paid beginning January 3, 2012 by MasterCard, Discover Card or e-check online at LHU Secure Bill Pay (Pay Your Student Bill Online.)  Please select Fall 2012 Housing Deposit from the drop down menu.  Please print the confirmation of payment as you will need to bring it with you to the 2nd part of the Room/Apartment Selection Process.  Pre-paying online is the preferred method of Housing Deposit payment.

  2. Paid in person at the Student Financial Services office, located in Russell Hall, by cash, check or money order made payable to LHU (Housing Deposit).

Housing deposits should be paid by February 1, 2012 at 4 p.m.

All questions about this process or the Housing and Food Service License Agreement must be directed to a Student Life Professional Staff member (Resident Director) or the Student Life/Housing Office, 308 Sullivan Hall, 484-2317.

Step #2: Fill out a Housing & Food Service Agreement & Choose a Lottery Number

This step in the process takes place on both February 2nd and February 3rd from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Bentley Dining Hall, Street Level  Room #6 & 7.  During this step in the process the student will fill out and sign the Housing & Food Service License Agreement and pick a lottery number.  February 2nd is for students with an odd last number in their student identification number, February 3rd is for students with an even last number in their student identification number.  If you miss this process for some reason, an opportunity to catch up with the process is offered to you on February 6, 13, and 20th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the third floor of Sullivan Hall.

Step #3: Room Sign-ups

There are three separate Room Selection opportunities for students who have completed the Housing Agreement.  The first process is Campus Village sign-ups, the second process is Fairview Suites sign-ups and the final process is All Campus sign-ups.  This is broken down even further into "squaters rights" and open moves, which is explained below.  Lottery numbers picked in Step #2 will determine the room selection time for each day.  When roommates (or one roommate with both agreements) enter the selection room, they will be able to pick from rooms that are not filled or reserved.  If all available rooms are filled in your hall when your lottery number is called during "squatters rights" selection, you will be encouraged to return for the remaining selection times.  When your lottery number is called during the open selection times, you (and your roommate or one roommate with both agreements) will be able to sign-up for any remaining, non-reserved housing spaces.  Sign-ups will continue during the open selection times until all non-reserved spaces are used.

Conditions for Step #3

  1. You must have already paid the $100 Housing Deposit.

  2. You (or person selecting for you) must have pink copies of the 2012-13 Housing & Food Service License Agreement (Lottery # is located on the right hand side of the agreement).

  3. In order to choose a room you must have a roommate.  If you do not have a roommate, you may only select a Single or a Hall (you will be assigned a room and roommate later).

  4. You may only sign-up during or after your Lottery Number designation time.

 Additional Information:

  1. Each student will receive a lottery number at the time that they fill out the Housing & Food Service License Agreement.  You will have scheduled times for room sign-up. The roommate with the lower lottery number will determine the sign-up time.

  2. If you follow the outlined 2012-13 Academic Year Room/Apartment Selection Process and do not have an identified roommate, you may only choose a hall.  Roommates will be paired from the list of students who signed up without a roommate.

  3. You may choose a hall and room if you have a roommate who also follows the outlined 2012-13 Academic Year Room/Apartment Selection Process.

  4.   In order to select a hall and room, only one of the roommate pair needs to be present, but he/she must have both student’s copies of the Housing and Food Service License Agreement.

  5. There are a limited number of Traditional single spaces in Smith Hall and Campus Village that may be requested.  There will also be the opportunity to live in a Double Room as a Single in McEntire Hall.  Over half of the spaces in Fairview Suites offers students the opportunity to live in a Two person Private Suite.  In those suites each person has their own private bedroom, but they share a bathroom and common living area.

  6. Your (or your roommate’s) lottery number will determine the time of room selection.  If all available rooms are taken when your lottery number range is called, you may place your names on the Housing Waiting List for future available rooms.  Adding your name to the Housing Waiting List does not guarantee that a space will come available.

  7. Paying a deposit and filling out a Housing and Food Service License Agreement does not guarantee you a housing space.  Should you not obtain a housing space, your $100 housing deposit will be credited to your student account or be refunded to you, or you may elect to keep your name on the Housing Waiting List.

  8. There will be no room or roommate changes after the room selection occurs.  The only way to change your status (room or roommate) is to put your request in writing and submit it to the Student Life & Housing Office, at which time you may lose the hall or the room you chose.  You will be placed in a room as space(s) become vacant over the Summer.

  9. The Housing Office reserves the right to consolidate or move a student(s) depending on unforeseen circumstances.

** All questions about the 2012-13 Academic Year Room/Apartment Selection Process or the Housing and Food Service License Agreement must be directed to a Student Life Professional Staff member (Resident Director) or to the Student Life/Housing Office, 308 Sullivan Hall, 570-484-2317.
