BUSINESS CONSULTANT (Grant Funded Program Coordinator I)

Position Purpose:

 

Lock Haven University of PA is accepting applications for the position of Small Business Development Center Business Consultant (Grant Funded Program Coordinator I).  This position is a part-time, (50%), position and will perform a variety of functions in a small office environment, and will be responsible for providing small business management advice, technical assistance, and related educational services to a diverse clientele of existing businesses and potential small business owners, as well as related internal office functions.  The Business Consultant will also participate in administrative oversight of the budgeting process, including maintaining a dual SAP and PA SBDC accounting system.  Duties are performed with weekly guidance from the Director and in cooperation as a team member of the SBDC.  The length of this assignment is dependent on the term of the grant and its renewal, if any.

 

Job Duties:

 

Business Counseling (70%):

  • Providing business counseling services to clients across full spectrum of business functions.  Primary emphasis on financing, accounting/record keeping and business planning.  Manage client cases ensuring efficient utilization of resources, including students and other PA SBDC programs.

  • Develop and maintain a familiarity with external sources of business assistance in order to facilitate productive client referrals;

  • Other activities as assigned by the SBDC Director.

Administrative (20%):

  • Promote and respond to email and telephone inquiries for additional information regarding SBDC services;

  • Complete all activity and client reporting requirements on a timely basis using Management Information System of the PA SBDC at Lock Haven University;

  • Participate in regularly scheduled SBDC staff meetings and training;

  • Other activities as assigned by the SBDC Director.  

Training (10%):

  • Contribute to the development of training sessions for start-up and existing companies;

  • Lead training sessions;

  • Proctor training sessions;

  • Other activities as assigned by the SBDC Director.

 

Education, Experience and Training:

 

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business-related field;

  • At least 1 year of SBDC related experience; 

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Preferences include:

  • Accounting and record keeping, including cash flow analysis;

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with an ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos;

  • Ability to effectively present information to individuals and groups;

  • Experience in writing business and marketing plans, loan packaging, and interpreting financial statements;

  • Business counseling and/or education;

  • Ability to conduct research, compile data, and prepare reports;

  • Ability to develop training materials and present at workshops;

  • Computer competency:  ability to apply and maneuver within a variety of software packages including but not limited to all Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.
