Overview of Internships

Internships are learning opportunities outside the university for students to study and experience professional career interests under the supervision of faculty. Internships provide students with additional skills in their fields and allow students to apply their knowledge learned in the classroom.

Internships are generally a semester in duration, but can be shorter. Students can intern part-time or full-time, anywhere between 10 – 40 hours/week. A student doing a part-time internship can also be enrolled in classes at Lock Haven University. For-credit internships are monitored by a faculty member. Internships can be paid or unpaid.

Employers are encouraged to post their internships directly to the website. You can create a profile of your company and post and update internship opportunities. A Career Services staff person can create and update information for you, also. Typically a student will contact you and submit the application information you requested. The faculty supervisor in conjunction with the on-site supervisor will develop a description of internship responsibilities. Although each academic department varies in its requirements for evaluation, some may ask for a mid-term and final evaluation.
