Information for Parents
Internships
are valuable experiences for your
students. Internships provide
hands-on learning experiences in the
students’ academic area that build
professional skills. On a resume,
they are a great way to demonstrate
a student has worked in the field.
Potential employers find internships
beneficial, and are more likely to
hire a student who has done at least
one internship in his/her field.
Internships also help students
better define their professional
areas of interest. They build
confidence. Students who have done
internships show they are more
connected to their studies and get
better grades. Students also gain a
number of skills that all employers
value, such as, time management,
leadership, teamwork, communication
skills, and more.
If your student has not talked about
doing an internship, suggest the
idea. Give input. Listen to your
student’s thoughts. Encourage your
student to talk with his or her
faculty advisor and the internship
coordinator at LHU.
