COURSE  CONDUCT

The nature and conduct of this course depends entirely on your presence, participation, instructional media materials planning and production.  You will be placed in situations where individual performance and group participation are critical for your overall assessment.  As such, you are expected to be a vital force.

Although I may not take attendance every class period your absence will not go unnoticed.  Likewise, your group may suffer (grade wise) if you fail to carry your weight.

Throughout this course you will be using a variety of Microsoft Office applications.  Specifically, you’ll use Microsoft Access, Excel, FrontPage, PowerPoint, and Word.  Each of you brings differing levels of computer literacy to this class.  If you think you have sufficient operational knowledge in the above mentioned programs, you may ask to be excused from EACH scheduled computer lab day.  However, I will be taking roll and you will be responsible for all the required components that are to be placed on computer generated assignments.  I will demonstrate the basic features necessary for each project and will also have a handout for project particulars.  These particulars will also be listed on the web page identifying the individual or group assignment.  There will also be computer lab time during class for you to work on assignments.

Even though this is a generic instructional media class my goal is to have small group composition consisting of students majoring in the same discipline.  Groups will be formed with early childhood, elementary, health & physical education, and special education students.  All group projects will relate to the specific discipline of the students and must be based on group consensus.  If for any reason you and/or your group cannot get along you have the option of joining another group if it’s all right with that group or you can work independently, but you will be required to follow the necessary guidelines for group projects.

Course evaluation is divided into three parts—Individual Assignments, Group Projects, and Attendance.

Seven (7) individual assignments will be evaluated on your own effort--not against others and include a Microsoft Word Booklet; a Visual Display; a Microsoft FrontPage designed and produced web pages; a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet; a Microsoft Access Database document; a Microsoft FrontPage designed online Webquest; and a framed overhead transparency set.

Three (3) group projects where all members of the group may receive the same grade and include a full-scale bulletin board; a large-print poster; and a computer edited videotaped PowerPoint driven informational / instructional program.  The group projects and in combination with a couple of individual assignments may be based on a group selected or designed Unit Plan.

Attendance where one point will be deducted--maximum of 10--for each unexcused absence.
