Constitution
of the
Physics Club
of
Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania
Article I - Name
This organization shall be known as the Physics Club of Lock Haven
University of Pennsylvania, an S.C.C. recongnized organization.
Article II - Purpose
The purpose of the Physics Club is to increase participation in the
understanding of physics through activities such as individual projects,
films discussions, field trips, and invited lectures.
Article III - Membership
Section 1.
Any part-time or full-time enrolled student at Lock
Haven University of Pennsylvania shall be eligible for membership
in the Physics Club.
Section 2.
Dues shall not be required of the membership.
Section 3.
All members shall enjoy equal voting rights.
Article IV - Officers
Section 1.
There shall be three student officers of the Physics Club as well
as at least one faculty advisor, duly chosen by the membership of
the club.
Section 2.
The three student officers shall be the President, Vice President,
and Secretary/Treasurer in order of succession.
Section 3.
In the absence of the President, the next in order of succession
shall preside over meetings.
Section 4.
The officers shall enjoy the usual powers and responsibilities
customarily associated with their office, as described in
Robert's Rules of Order.
Article V - Elections and Terms of Office
Section 1.
The election of officers shall take place at the first club meeting
each semester and the term for each office shall be one academic
semester.
Section 2.
Qualifications for nominees of any officers include a 2.2
cumulative grade point average, ranked as a second semester
freshman or higher and must have all activity fees, fines, and
other fees paid in full.
Section 3.
The presiding officer at the first meeting of each semester shall
be the highest ranking incumbent officer present. He or she shall
determine the method of balloting, and have the responsibility to
issue notices for this meeting. If no incumbent officer is present
at this meeting, the presiding officer shall be the highest
academically ranking student member.
Section 4.
No member shall hold the same office for more than two consecutive
terms.
Section 5.
If a vacancy occurs in any office, the Executive Board shall
nominate a replacement to be voted on by the remaining members. A
majority vote is needed to appoint the nominee.
Article VI - Executive Board
Section 1.
The Executive Board of the Physics Club shall consist of the
officers of the organization. Each member of the Executive Board
shall have one vote. The Executive Board shall have the powers and
the duties as stated in the by-laws.
Section 2.
The Executive Board shall have the authority to act for the Physics
Club at such times as there shall arise a need for immediate
action, the organization being incapable of such action at the
time. The members of the Executive Board shall be held accountable
to the organization for such action as they may take under
provision. Any such action shall be reported to the membership at
the next meeting, and any objections to this action must be
raidsed at that meeting.
Section 3.
The Executive Board shall also be responsible for preparing an
annual report to the Senate of the S.C.C. This report shall
describe the activities, accomplishments, membership roster, and
recommendations of the club.
Article VII - Meetings
Section 1.
A quorum of the organization shall consist of two officers and two
other members present at any meeting. A quorum of the Executive
Board shall consist of three officers.
Section 2.
Meetings of thePhysics Club may be called by the President at any
time.
Section 3.
The parliamentary authority of this organization shall be
Robert's Rules of Order, latest edition. This organization
shall also abide by any and all S.C.C. procedures, guidelines, and
the S.C.C. constitution as well as those found in the LHU Student
Handbook.
Article VIII - Committees
Committees may be appointed by the President with the approval of the
membership. Committees shall serve such term as the President specifies.
Committee have the obligation to report to the membership regularly.
Article IX - Amendments
This constitutiion may be amended by a two-thirds majority of the
regular members, and shall pass by a majority of the Ways and Means
Committee of the S.C.C.
Article X - Repealer
All previous bylaws and constitutions of the organization known as the
Physics Club at Lock Haven University are hereby and forever repealed.
