The meeting was called to order at five by Shawn Wellman Old business 1) Trip to Nuclear plant: The Physics club will be going to The Nuclear plant on October 27, 1998 at 12:00 p.m.. All who attended the meeting said this was a good time and they are: Dr. Reid, Dr. Wheeler, Steve, Amy, Adam and Shawn. All members who were not there on 09/30/98 and still want to go should see Dr. Reid ASAP. 2) Scare crow: The date that it needs to be done by is October 30th. Shawn moved that by the next meeting ,on October 7, 1998, we have design ideas, and ideas as to where to get supplies. Amy seconded that saying that she may be able to get straw. 3) Club Fair Review: Dr. Reid said that the demos where not very impressive and made a suggestion that next year we make them bigger or more exciting. That was agreed upon and Shawn mentioned that a better location would have had a higher turn out. 4) The moon rock display: The date is Thursday October 1st and all those who have pledged time to that thank you. NEW BUSINESS 1) Community Service: Steve motioned that community service would be a great benefit to us as a club and to the members of our society. He has taken it upon himself to make one contact and to start finding schools where the Physics club could go to and do various performances. This was seconded by Shawn and the club decided that it should be incorporated into our plans following the demo show. 2) Talks: Next Thursday October 8th we will be having a Guest Speaker in the Planetarium. Dr. Reid motioned that the club should continue to give its speeches on Cosmology. Steve went this week and Amy has agreed that she will give a speech at the next club meeting. Also, Kevin has agreed to give his speech one week after Amy on the 14th of October. 3) Demo show!!!!!!!!!!!! The demo show date has been set for Saturday October 31st. This date is fastly approaching and it was agreed that we are not prepared. Dr. Reid moved that work on the demos begin immediately. This will mean weekends and other times will be needed to get stuff done and ready. At the next meeting ALL member it would be in the clubs best interest to have at least two more demo ideas and be prepared to begin work on them. Here is the list of demos that have been decided on and who is doing each. Amy: 1. Round and round it goes. 2. Bouncing Ball Dr. Reid: 1. Up UP and away 2. Depressing can (will be working with Dr. Wheeler on this one) 3. Hover Craft (will be working with Dr. Wheeler on this one) Larry: 1. Liquid Nitrogen Demos 2. Head Gear Dr. Wheeler: 1. Odd Shapes 2. Monkey Gun 3. Garden Hose 4. Plus the Hover Craft and Depressing Can Steve: 1. Table Cloth Adam: 1. Rocket Man Shawn: 1. Wrecking Ball 2. Egg Drop Soup Dr. Reid Motioned that ALL members get together on Friday the October 9th to help assemble the hover craft. This was seconded by Shawn. The demo show should now be the one thing that we really focus on and get ready for. Please have some new ideas for demos at the next meeting if you are uncertain as to what can be done and what can not be done please talk to Dr. Reid and/or Dr. Wheeler.
