Experiment and Theory
These days in physics, one is usually either an experimentalist or a theorist. I am an experimental physicist. A theorist mainly works with equations and studies the results of experiments and makes predictions for new experiments. An experimentalist performs experiments and interprets the information produced by experiments in light of existing theories. Experiments can be done to test a theory or to explore new things altogether. (Often both are done.) Theory and experiment go hand-in-hand, in the goal of acheiving a deeper understanding of how nature works.

My main area of research is called High Energy Physics. I have also done research in Heavy Ion Physics. Here are some pages that give more information on these areas:
