The box above was crafted by Richard Rothbard (see Richard's boxology site).  It is one of the larger and more complex abstract boxes that Richard has made and is signed on the bottom.  Fashioned from buckeye, it is approximately 20" long, 7" high, and 8" deep.  The box contains three main levels accessed by four keys, two of which are typical for bandsaw boxes, one of which is a puzzle box in itself, and one of which is disguised as a burl in the wood (these latter two keys appear in the bottom right of the last photo above).  The box consists of 28 total pieces and 21 total compartments; not all of these are revealed in the photos above.  Note how the natural color variance of buckeye is displayed as the compartments in the box are revealed.
