The Sphere box is crafted from a variety of woods including padauk, bloodwood, monticello, cocobolo, and holly. Actually a sphere within a sphere, the inner sphere (the box) can be opened if its lid is extricated from the spherical cage surrounding it. Motion within the cage is restricted by protrusions on the inner sphere (one of these is visible in black in the photo). I have purposefully taken this photo to conceal other important aspects of this puzzle ultimately important to the solution.
