At the start of each class one member of the class will be called upon (at random--name drawn out of a hat) to present a five minute critical analysis of a signed editorial (that is, an opinion piece--not a news article) from the New York Times (or other serious newspaper of record) that deals with an issue of international relations. The editorial must be no more than one week old. In your analysis you should make use of at least one theoretical perspective, school of thought, or conceptual framework discussed in the textbook or discussed in class that is relevant to the article.
In the first two minutes of the analysis you should give the class a brief summary of the argument and main points made by the writer of the article. The remainder should be used to illuminate the article using concepts/perspectives developed in the textbook or in class.
Note: If you are absent or not prepared when your name is drawn five additional slips bearing your name will then be placed into the hat.
