The Human Resources Department of Lock Haven University has awarded the Faculty Professional Development Committee $5000 to be used in Faculty Professional Development endeavors. The committee has decided to award 5 competitive grants of $1000 to faculty with emphasis given to non-tenured and probationary faculty. Grants will be awarded in April 2012.
Lock Haven University's Human Resources Grants are designed to provide funds for scholarly research, the creative and performing arts, the improvement of teaching and learning, and faculty enhancement. The faculty enhancement category is relatively new and some examples of activities which might qualify in this category are: to attend short courses or extended workshops which will lead to enrichment of courses or development of course material; travel to libraries or specialized research facilities to gather information for generating/revising lecture and/or laboratory material; and utilization of an external consultant to work with faculty on improving particular areas in curriculum.
Please note that this is not intended to fund attendance at conferences or short/pre-conference workshops that would be funded by Travel Grants . Developed in a fashion similar to state level grants, these grant application require a comprehensive description of the project/opportunity. These annual grants are competitive and only proposals that follow the guidelines will be considered for funding. Applicants are encouraged to have their proposals pre-screened by a member of the Faculty Professional Development Committee prior to the deadline. A list of committee members, as well as contact information, can be found by clicking on the FPDC Members link to the left.
Applications that do not follow the appropriate format, found in the Annual Campus Grant Application, will be returned.
Final reports are required for the LHU Human Resources Grants. Specific report requirements are given in the RFP, which can be found by clicking on the link above. In addition, all recipients of LHU Faculty Professional Development Grants must acknowledge "LHU Faculty Professional Development funds" as a source of funding in any published work supported by these funds.
The dollar maximum for the Annual Grants is $1,000 per proposal. These grants are open to all non-tenured and probationary full time faculty.
If you have any additional questions about applying for Faculty Professional Development funds, please contact one of the members of the committee or contact the FPDC chair.
