In 1942, Lock Haven State Teachers College began a nursing program called the Cadet Nurses Training Program in cooperation with Lock Haven Hospital. The LHSTC Board of Trustees resolved to "cooperate with the State Council on Education in the offering of courses in training at the Lock Haven Hospital. Six months or pre-clinical training was taught by the LHSTC college faculty to the nursing cadets before they began practical experience at the hospital.
The Cadet nurses that participated in teh program included Geraldine Wood, Beverly Vonada, Eleanor Miller, Ruth Mencer, Lucille Miller, Annabelle Weller, Ida Brungard, mabel Guisewite, Jo Ann Eckert, and Catherine Thompson.
