Welcome to the Stevenson Library Guide to Historical Fiction!

We’ve set up this website to illustrate the kinds of sources available in the library for completion of your Historical Fiction assignments. For example, one way to get to know more about a historical figure is to consult biographical reference materials. Although any list of such sources could easily run into the hundreds of titles, we’ve listed a few here that may be helpful as you start your research. You may also want to search through the large number of newspapers available through the LexisNexis link, Newsbank, or on “hardcopy” in the library. In addition to these sources, we’ve also included encyclopedias, chronologies, information on searching, and more.

All sources listed are all available right here in Stevenson Library or online through one of the databases accessible through the library homepage. Remember, the lists you will find on the links to the left are not exhaustive; they only provide you with a few samples of types of resources. For example, in addition to the encyclopedias highlighted, your discipline or area of interest likely has its own sources geared to specific information needs. You may also find other helpful materials in a given area, such as handbooks, dictionaries and other reference resources. In any case, a great way to start is to begin clicking on the links to the left. Begin exploring and enjoy!
