| Reserve Materials and Copyright |
All items to be placed on physical or electronic reserve must comply with copyright law. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to ensure that the laws are followed. Library staff will provide assistance with copyright questions.
Many reserve items are subject to fair use guidelines or to license agreements. Check the library Fair Use Guidelines page for more information.
Reserve items must be legally owned by the LHU Libraries or by the faculty member. Duplicate copies of books and audiovisual materials cannot be placed on reserve unless written permission of the copyright-holder is provided. Items that have been borrowed through interlibrary loan cannot be placed on reserve.
Portions of a book or audiovisual item may be used if the portion meets the fair use guidelines. As a rough estimate, up to 15% of a work may qualify for fair use.
