About the Program

The MED: Educational Leadership program is designed to prepare visionary leaders with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that enable effective development of student motivation, student achievement, teacher professional growth, curriculum development and implementation, school improvement, human resource leadership, and the capable management of the day-to-day operations within a school. The Master of Education in Teaching and Learning, aligned with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, is designed to enable individuals who work in education and related settings, develop competencies that are characteristic of those who assume leadership roles in bringing about improvement.

Admission Requirements

Students must meet the minimum requirements to be accepted into the Educational Leadership Program.  The program has been approved by Lock Haven University, The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
Pennsylvania Teaching Certification
Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience
Desire to earn Principal Certification

Admission Process

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Online Application (Application)
    A $25.00 Non-Refundable Application Fee will be required.
  • Official Transcripts from Undergraduate Degree Granting Institution
    (LHU graduates do not need to request transcripts. Graduate Admissions will request transcripts upon receipt of completed applications for LHU graduates.)
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • Copy of Teaching Certificate 
    Teacher Certification is a requirement for admission.
  • Writing Sample
    Review a pertinent scholarly journal article or report published in a recent professional journal. The topic must be related to leadership in education. Include the problem or issue, the author's viewpoint and supporting ideas. Also include your professional opinion in the final paragraphs of the essay. Your essay should not exceed 300 words. (You must submit a copy of the full text of the article along with your essay.)

Lock Haven University Graduates do not have to request transcripts; the Office of Graduate Admissions will do this for you.

Accreditation

The Master of Education program in Teaching and Learning is fully accredited through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). 

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Alignment 

The program is aligned with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and can assist education professionals prepare for the National Board Certification if so desired. Aside from the certification process the program provides skill and knowledge sets indicative of an accomplished teacher.
