LHU students use education to help kids in the Dominican Republic

LHU offers students the opportunity of a volunteer experience with A.C.E.S. North America. The Williamsport based organization travels to the Dominican Republic each year with students to provide the local children with the most valuable gift that they can receive, an education.

"From the moment I landed in the Dominican Republic for my eight day service trip, I could see just how the donations made people in my hometown were able to change the lives of many people who were so desperately in need.  I was able to see this first hand while witnessing schoolchildren receive dental care with the help of novocain that was provided by the A.C.E.S program!  They were able to receive the care they needed with very little pain, all because of the generosity of our donors.  The children were able to take their new smiles to the Cabon school where the team also helped them practice English, make crafts and learn valuable skills.  Their enthusiasm is amazing. They are so smart and deeply appreciated our help. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life!"

"One morning we were distributing gifts that were donated by people back home.  The children were so excited to receive even the smallest gifts.  As they opened their presents I was amazed to see how they immediately began to share with the otehr children who hadn't received anything.  It was Christmas like no other.  For kids that young to share the gifts they received with other children was an incredible and inspiring experience that I will never forget."

- A. Lambert

"We are so grateful for the kindness of our volunteers.  You leave the comforts of your homes and go where it is not comfortable.  The people of Dominican Republic thank you for your efforts!"
