Middle States 2010 Resources

General

The Director of Planning and Assessment presented an overview of the anticipated self-study process to department chairs and directors in March 2007.

The Steering Committee presented a workshop for Working Group members at University Days, January 7, 2009.

Middle States has published important materials on accreditation and self-study.

• "Characteristics of Excellence" contains the fourteen Middle States standards (pages ix-xi). The material on succeeding pages offer further elaboration and illustration.
• "Self-Study: Creating a Useful Process & Report" outlines the self-study process. The first chapter (pages 1-11) overviews the process. The second chapter (pages 12-17) describes the role of chairs, steering committee members, etc. in leading the institution through the self-study process.
• "Assessing Student Learning and Institutional Effectiveness" explains Middle States expectations on assessment. This document is also included as Appendix C (pages 60-63) of "Self-Study: Creating a Useful Process & Report."
• "Team Visits: Conducting and Hosting an Evaluation Visit" explains expectations for the team's visit to campus.

There are many other documents that provide additional guidance.

• The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) publishes an Accreditation Toolkit that highlights ways to use NSSE data in a Middle States self-study.
