We study the function of steam engines, electric generators and motors, solar cells, wind turbines, etc. We also search the answer of more fundamental questions like "How much wood do I need to burn to lift a 20 lb bucket 3 feet up?", or "What is the end product of the radioactive decay of Uranium- 238?" It can be warm or very windy in the lab. The pictures in this page are from a "windy" lab with the class of the Fall of 2006. The students explore the electrical power that can be extracted from the wind generator and the efficiency of different blade types. |
