West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. Donates Equipment to LHU's New Science Center

October 18, 2013 – West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. of Exton, PA has graciously donated new science equipment to the Lock Haven University Science Center. West Pharmaceutical employees installed the new equipment, valued at over $100,000, on October 17th, showing students the correct procedure and safety precautions.

“We are proud to support science and technology education in Pennsylvania, our home state,” said Donald E. Morel, Jr., Ph.D., Chairman and CEO. “West has grown from a family-owned and managed business founded in Philadelphia in 1923 to a global leader in pharmaceutical delivery system technologies. Our growth is a tribute to the drive and determination of the West team, many of whom graduated from Pennsylvania colleges and universities with degrees in the sciences.”

Equipment donated by West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. will allow students to accurately target research in chemistry and biology. In addition to the varied uses in those fields, the technology is also widely used in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, especially for critical quality testing. Working with this equipment will better prepare students for careers in these industries.

“Giving back to our communities is part of the corporate culture at West,” said Jennifer Riter, Senior Director, Global Analytical Services. “For me, that means supporting Lock Haven University. With its high-quality education, attractive student-to-faculty ratio and the support and guidance of the professors, Lock Haven was the right choice for me.” Riter graduated from Lock Haven University in 1996 with a degree in Biology/Chemistry.

Lock Haven University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), the largest provider of higher education in the commonwealth.
