LHU music professor will perform, conduct master classes in China

Dr. David Curtin, associate professor of music at Lock Haven University, is once again in China, sharing his talents as a performer and educator.

Curtin has been invited for the third time to be a faculty practitioner/performer at the International School Choral Music Society's 4th annual music festival.  The ISCMS 2012 festival is in Beijing, February 14 – 19.   

On February 14, Curtin will perform in an opening chamber music concert and on February 16 he will perform a solo recital featuring works by Rachmaninoff, Beethoven and Mussorgsky.

Throughout the festival he will also conduct several piano master classes for advanced piano students. Master classes give advanced music students the opportunity to supplement their studies through interaction with guest performers whose insight and experience exemplify the highest levels of musical achievement.

The International School Choral Music Society brings together musically gifted young people, grades 7 – 12, attending over 20 international schools in Asia and the Middle East, for lectures, workshops, master classes, and concerts. The culminating event this year is a gala concert at the Forbidden City concert hall in central Beijing, featuring the combined student orchestra and choir performing several works, including a world premiere by composer Karl Jenkins.

Curtin, who has performed nationally and internationally, holds the distinction of being a Steinway Artist, an internationally recognized mark of excellence.
