LHU Students to host Annual Earth Day celebration


Activities, wildlife shows for all ages

Each year, Lock Haven University students from clubs across campus participate in the Biology Club’s annual Earth Day Celebration. This year the event will be held on the lawn directly outside of Himes Hall on the LHU campus from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. The event is free and open to the public. Rain location will be the Zimmerli Gymnasium #1.

There will be a variety of activities available for LHU students as well as children throughout the community.  The highlight of this year event includes two exciting guest lectures which are sure to interest visitors of all ages. Both lectures will take place under the tent on the Himes Hall lawn.

The first lecture will be presented at 10:00 a.m. (new start time) by The Wild World of Animals.  Wild World of Animals is a wildlife company in Southwestern Pennsylvania specializing in entertaining and educational wildlife shows.  Wild World of Animals has appeared on national and local television shows such as David Letterman and Good Morning America.  Their lecture is provided by the LHU Outing and Scuba Club. The second lecture, at 2:00 p.m., will be from Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland.  Located in Allenwood, Pennsylvania, Reptiland is a specialized zoo focusing on “the less-loved members of the animal kingdom.”  Reptiland lecturers are expert naturalists who perform hundreds of programs each year. Activities include pine cone bird feeders, painting plant pots, growing you own plant, the Pollen Game, per rock painting, mouse-trap fishing, a microscope station, DNA extraction stations, paper making from polymores, egg carton bus, Frisbee toss, and more.  Prizes will be available.
