LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY JOINS PEARSON VUE NETWORK TO OFFER ACCESSIBLE AND SECURE CERTIFICATION TESTING

11/2/2012

October 24, 2012 – Lock Haven University has signed an agreement with Pearson VUE, to offer the computer-based testing (CBT) business of Pearson, PAPA , PreK-4, Special Education PreK-8, and Special Education 7-12.

To become a certified teacher, all education majors at the bachelor’s degree level must take and meet Pre-Service Academic Performance Assessment (PAPA) qualifying scores in reading, mathematics and writing. The PAPA exams are part of Pennsylvania Educator Certification Test (PECT). Early childhood and special education majors also take content area PECT tests

“All teacher candidates must pass standardized tests and, to support Lock Haven University students, we have established a computerized testing center in Raub Hall, Room 106,” said Dr. Jane Penman, Dean of the College of Education and Human Services. “This onsite center will enable our students to take these high-stakes tests in a modern, newly equipped lab on their own campus. In addition to certification testing, this center will soon be able to also administer computerized Praxis exams delivered by Educational Testing Service. Secondary and K-12 education majors are required to take Praxis II exams in addition to the PAPA. The center is open to students from other institutions,” adds Penman.

The center, in 106 Raub Hall, was designed to meet the testing certification standards of both Pearson VUE and Education Testing Service (ETS). The testing organizations require a check-in area, privacy for each test taker and a configuration that enables an administrator to see the test takers at all times, Penman said. LHU’s testing center offers up to 30 testing workstations.

Starting November 3rd, LHU students will not have to travel to Harrisburg, Port Allegany, Wellsville, or Loretto to take the online exams. Students schedule test times with Pearson VUE and use the LHU testing center when it is convenient for them.

Pearson VUE’s advanced system administers exams on behalf of hundreds of businesses, boards and organizations around the globe through the world's largest most secure test center network. The system enables candidates to register and reschedule their tests online or through a Pearson VUE call center.
