LHU students help spread the word
March 9, 2012
On Wednesday, March 7, Lock Haven University students in Carol Liddick’s SPEC 212 class urged others to take the “spread the word to end the word” pledge. Started by the Special Olympics, the Spread the Word campaign hopes to make people aware of the dehumanizing effect of the r-word for people with intellectual disabilities.
Liddick observed, “My college students are learning that they have a great opportunity to be models of positive language that empowers everyone.” Students Sunset Smith, Kevin Hacker, Kacie Hershey, Lindsey Hess, Cheyenne Skinner and Whitney Martin were staffing the Spread the Word table outside Robinson Hall when Kaitlyn Ratych and Steph Lynch signed up to take the online pledge.
