LHU announces Astronomical Friday dates

Lock Haven, PA- Lock Haven University will present its annual Astronomical Fridays Program to the community and region. Individuals and groups of all ages are invited to these free presentations. The Friday programs include two separate events; an afternoon planetarium show and an evening outdoor sky watch scheduled for the following dates: September 21, October 19 and November 16 of 2012 and February 8, March 15, and April 12 of 2013.

All planetarium shows begin in the afternoon at 12:30 p.m. in room 232 Ulmer Hall. Astronomical Fridays - Under the Stars will begin at 8 p.m., except for April 2013 which will have a start time of 9 p.m. The outdoor observations will use the University’s 12-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope. All observations will take place at the Farrandsville Road Playing fields of Lock Haven University, located 1.1 miles above the Jay Street Bridge on the Northeast side of the Susquehanna River, adjacent to the West Branch Soccer Fields. Observation will feature the moon, planets, stars, star clusters, stellar nurseries, stellar corpses, and galaxies.

The public is invited to this free program. It is facilitated by Dr. James Wheeler, associate professor in the LHU Geology and Physics Department.
