LPN Advanced Placement Admission Process
University Admission: Applicants must meet the general admission criteria at the University level and adhere to the admissions procedure stated on the school website. Apply online at www.lhup.edu, submit official transcripts from high school and any post-secondary institutions attended to Clearfield campus admissions office. Verification of current Pennsylvania LPN licensure is necessary.
Pre-Requisite Requirements for Nursing: As per the State Board of Nursing: “Applicants shall have completed work equal to a standard high school course with a minimum of 16 units, including 4 units of English, 3 units of Social Studies, 2 units of Mathematics (1 of which is Algebra), and 2 units of Science with a related laboratory or the equivalent.”
The Algebra, Academic Chemistry (with a lab component), and Academic Biology (with a lab component) pre-requisites at the high school level must have a grade of a C or higher. If these courses were not taken at the high school level, then they must be completed at the college level with a C or higher grade and a GPA of 2.70 or above is required for consideration. The Lock Haven University courses that would fulfill this requirement are MATH100, CHEM101, and BIOL101.
G.E.D. students must meet the same requirements.
General Education Course Requirement: General education courses required in the first year of our nursing program must also be completed, and a cumulative (overall) GPA of 2.70 is required for admission into the nursing program (see #9 of the Summary Sheet). The courses required are listed on the Curriculum Worksheet which is included in this packet.
Applicants must take the necessary Nursing Department LPN entrance exams and achieve the required scores (see #5, 6, and 7 of the Summary Sheet) in order to be exempt from NURS101 and NURS102.
Once accepted into the nursing program, unless previously completed, the student must take all required courses in the semester (3rd and 4th) in which they are offered as listed on the Curriculum Worksheet.
If you require further information, please contact the Nursing Department at (814) 768-3450.
