Middle States Commission
on Higher Education
The Middle States Commission on Higher Education
accredits degree-granting colleges and universities in the Middle States region and
is the regional accreditor for Lock Haven University. The Commission examines the
institution as a whole instead of specific programs. The Commission's mission statement
states that it ". . . is a voluntary, non-governmental, peer-based membership
association dedicated to educational excellence and improvement through peer-evaluation
and accreditation. As a recognized leader in promoting and ensuring quality assurance
and improvement in higher education, the Commission defines, maintains, and promote
educational excellence and responds creatively to a diverse, dynamic, global higher
education community that is continually evolving."
The Commission requires institutions periodically to
demonstrate that they meet the standards for accreditation. Lock Haven University of
Pennsylvania conducted an institutional self-study
and received reaffirmation of accreditation in June 2000, and completed its
Periodic Review Report in June 2005 (see official
Statement of Accreditation Status).
