Assessment is
- a process of
- evaluating an organization's effectiveness
- in achieving stated goals,
- by gathering and analyzing evidence about outcomes
- for the purpose of continual improvement.
Assessment asks:
- How well are we doing?
- How do we know?
- How can we improve?
Lock Haven's assessment process focuses on student learning, because
student learning is our passion and the heart of our mission. Other goals
should support and facilitate student learning. Lock Haven assesses performance
in every area of institutional life, including:
- student learning
- academic programs
- support services
- diversity
- finances and development

- contributions to regional economic development
Formal assessment processes include:

- five-year academic program reviews
- reviews and reports to regional and specialized accrediting agencies
- PASSHE System Accountability Plan reports
The purpose of assessment is to enhance the quality of the education
that Lock Haven provides its students and the service that the university
provides to the community and the commonwealth.
