LHU’s Bronner exhibits work in Italy

Title: Guar(d)ingo. Size: 30 x 22.5 inches. Medium: charcoal on paper.

CASSINO, Italy – On June 14, 2008, the city gallery of Cassino, Italy opened a new solo exhibition of drawings by Lock Haven University’s Jason Bronner, associate professor of art, titled Cani dell’Impero (Dogs of the Empire). The works will be on display through July 11.

The exhibition presents recent drawings by Mr. Bronner, who is currently associate professor of art at LHU, where he has taught since 2000. Bronner teaches drawing and painting among other art courses.

“The works of this exhibition revolve around the theme of empire,” Bronner said. “Writers from both the left and the right of the political spectrum, including Gore Vidal and Charles Krauthammer, have described the U.S. as an empire with the United States frequently referred to as the ‘new Rome,’ and it is with this knowledge that I have created the works in this exhibition.”

This is Bronner’s first solo exhibition in Italy. The exhibit has already been well received with several of the major newspapers in the region publishing preview articles on Bronner and the show.

Over the past 10 years, Bronner's drawings and paintings have been selected for exhibition in national and international shows by curators from numerous museums including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Tampa Museum of Art, the San Antonio Museum of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
