LHU Health Fair moves up time of keynote speech

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University Campus-Community Health Fair and Wellness Day, scheduled from 2 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 in the LHU Student Recreation Center, is moving the time of the keynote address from 7 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to avoid conflicts with the 8 p.m. visit of former president Bill Clinton.

The speaker is Rene Hicks. The first African American woman ever nominated for an American Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-up, Hicks has appeared on numerous TV shows including her own special on Comedy Central. Along with being an international comedian, she is the daughter of a Pentecostal preacher, accountant, lung cancer survivor, smoke-free advocate and “humor healer.”

Her program is designed to deliver both hilarious entertainment and the message that something as simple as laughter can aid in breaking down barriers that contribute to social isolation. Often categorized as a comic with a social conscience, she says she is determined to use her comedy to make a difference in people’s lives and create a healthier society.

The Campus-Community Health Fair and Wellness Day is a traditional health fair with 40 outside agencies, healthcare vendors, and ongoing workshops educational health and wellness topics that the campus and the general public can attend for free. The day is funded and/or supported in part by the following: LHU Foundation, Department of Health Science, Lock Haven Hospital Healthy Woman, Safe Haven, SCC, Department of Recreation Management, Penn State Cooperative Extension, Department of Athletics, the Student Recreation Center and variety of coalition members on and off campus.

A “Health Walk” also is scheduled for noon, starting at the Dyke-Levi amphitheater. For more information, contact Dr. Rick Schulze at (570) 484-2155 or fschulze@lhup.edu as soon as possible.
