LHU to hold fundraiser for fire victims

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University custodial staff is taking orders for hoagies with the proceeds going to the family of Bobbi Jo and Brian Hummel and their three children.

The Hummel family lost its Beech Creek home and all of its belongings in a fire that occurred last week. Bobbi Jo Hummel is an employed custodian at Lock Haven University, and the custodial department and the university are supporting the family and working to meet a goal of selling 1,000 hoagies to raise needed funds, according to Holly Barner, LHU custodian.

The general public and area businesses, as well as LHU employees, are encouraged to participate and support the Hummels through ordering hoagies or making donations.

A number of area businesses have already pledged to support the effort and supply materials, Barner said, including Hilty’s Convenient Store, Walker’s Hardware, Miller Brothers Auto Sales, All American Janitorial Inc., the Restless Oaks Restaurant, Holsum Bread Bakery and D-Heart Paper Products. More sponsors are needed, she said.

Over 40 LHU custodial staff members will make hoagies at the East Campus facility on Thursday, April 17. On-campus deliveries will be made later that day and the following day, and off-campus deliveries will be arranged as the orders are taken.

The organizers also are looking for another venue to sell the hoagies over the weekend of April 18.

The hoagies cost $4, and the deadline for ordering is April 10.

To order hoagies, make a donation or request additional information, contact Holly Barner, East Campus custodian, at (570) 367-9527.

The university’s track and field team also will be holding a shoe sale and has pledged to donate half of the proceeds to the Hummel family. The shoe sale will be held at Thomas Fieldhouse on Wednesday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
