LHU students host Japanese spring festival

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -The Lock Haven University Institute for International Studies (IIS) hosted a Japanese festival called Setsubun on February 3. Setsubun celebrates the beginning of spring. In order to rid the New Year of bad luck, attendees throw beans at a demon, shouting, “out with the bad luck, in with the good luck.” Zak Hossain, professor of sociology, played the part of the demon to help the IIS have a prosperous 2009. Pictured are LHU students Brian McIlwee and Brian Hwang, looking over a display of Japanese photos, crafts, and toys.

Lock Haven University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), the largest provider of higher education in the commonwealth.
