Calling all cooks to LHU Chili Cook-Off

The success of last year's Chili Cook-Off is evident on the smiling faces of LHU women's basketball players Evelyn Wynn (left) and Kristen Kudrick (right). This year's team is looking forward to even more success.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Who makes the best chili in Lock Haven? It’s time to find out.

Members of the community are invited to the Third Annual Chili Cook-Off sponsored by the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team. The event will take place on Saturday, October 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Thomas Field House.

The Chili Cook-off has quickly become a popular LHU tradition. Head women’s basketball coach Jennifer Smith commented on the success of event over the last two years. “This will mark the third year for our Chili cook-off,” she said. “We are excited to report that each year the event has grown substantially. We feel that this is a wonderful and fun way to bring together Lock Haven University and the community.”

Tickets for the event are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Ticket prices include all-you-can-eat chili, taste-testing, and voting. In addition, the local group “The Sirens” will be performing.

Tickets are available from the LHU women’s basketball office or any member of the team.

First, second, and third-place winners in the Chili-Cook-off will each receive a trophy. In addition, the first-place winner will receive $100. Jocelyn Duke, assistant women’s basketball coach, said “We welcome all varieties of chili—turkey, beef, vegetarian and so on. It makes it all more exciting.”

To enter the contest, contact LHU women’s basketball assistant coach Jocelyn Duke by October 10. She can be reached by phone (570) 484-2569 or email: jduke@lhup.edu. Entrants should prepare a crock pot of chili for the event on October 24.

All proceeds will benefit the LHU women’s basketball team.
