LHU approved as Act 48 provider

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Lock Haven University has received approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to offer non-credit courses for Act 48 credit.

As of July 1, 2000, education professionals in the state of Pennsylvania are required to complete continuing education requirements every five years to maintain their PA professional education certification. Often educators will take Act 48 credit continuing education courses. Lock Haven University can offer Act 48 credit through a variety of modalities such as on-line courses, face to face courses, and workshops. They can also be offered at a variety of sites.

Marianne Hazel, Associate Dean, commented, “Lock Haven University is committed to assisting educators with their professional development and is excited to offer courses, programs, and activities to help educators strengthen their teaching skills. We value teacher education and are pleased to be working collaboratively with local school districts to fulfill their professional development needs.”

LHU College of Education and Human Services surveyed KCSD teachers this year, to determine needs, and plans to offer professional development opportunities, during the 2009-2010 academic year. Information regarding available courses and workshops will be sent to local school districts and will be posted on the LHU website.

Lock Haven University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), the largest provider of higher education in the commonwealth. Its 14 universities offer more than 250 degree and certificate programs in more than 120 areas of study. Nearly 405,000 system alumni live and work in Pennsylvania.
