LHU students get fire safety training

Smith Hall Resident Assistant Kyle Rose uses a fire extinguisher to put out a fire.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Lock Haven University students had an opportunity for hands-on experience in fire safety and the use of fire extinguishers. Smith Hall Council and the Smith Resident Assistant Staff sponsored a fire safety training session with Lock Haven Fire Departments on Thursday, October 15.

The purpose of the training was to instruct LHU students in the proper use of fire extinguishers to put out fires and dry chemical extinguishers in particular. The fire departments brought their burn barrel that is used to train volunteer fire fighters in the proper use of fire extinguishers. There was also a 15 minute video on how to use a fire extinguisher and then the students had the opportunity to use the fire extinguishers to put out a fire in the burn barrel.

Following the training, there was a s'mores and hotdog social on the back patio of Smith.
