LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Lock Haven University announces the opening of the Bentley Art Gallery in the lower level of Bentley Hall. Exhibitions are free and the public is welcome.

Jason Bronner, associate professor of art and art collections curator, described the new Bentley Gallery as “a wonderful teaching tool.” He added, “Its location in Bentley Hall provides an excellent venue to showcase our students’ work, our fine permanent art collection, as well as the works of visiting artists to Lock Haven University and the central Pennsylvania community.”

The first show in the Bentley Art Gallery combines the work of current students and several alumni. “It has been well received,” said Ray Heffner, chair of the art department. The show was organized and installed by Bronner, with help from the Fine Art Society (FAS) and participating students and assistance from Heffner.

The FAS is a student organization and will have primary responsibility for the program of shows, with faculty supervision. Heffner said, “It is hoped that this will be a valuable learning environment not only to study art but to study the dynamics of exhibition and gallery management.”

FAS president Alice Alexandrescu said, “Since this gallery is student oriented, it will enrich the experience of campus artists. As an art student, I feel this new avenue to showcase my work is motivating. I see this as a positive for the LHU community.” Heffner praised Alexandrescu for her “tremendous enthusiasm and support” for the project.
