LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Lock Haven University will host Family Day on Saturday, October 11. Family Day activities are free and open to the families and friends of LHU students.
From 10:00 until noon, the individual residence halls will hold receptions for students and their families. The bookstore in the Parsons Union Building (PUB) will be open from 10:00 until 4:00, and a free tote bag will be given with any purchase.
The PUB will also be the site of the “Strike-A-Pose” Family Photo activity, sponsored by the Haven Activities Council, 11:00 until 3:00. Participants can snap three black-and-white photos with their families and decorate the frame. Other Family Day events include an Open House at the Student Recreation Center from 10:00 until 4:00 and Family Day Volleyball from noon until 4:00. The Panhellenic Council will sponsor a cookbook sale in the PUB from noon until 3:00. From 1:00 until 4:00, the Residence Hall Association will sponsor Casino Games and games for children.
Dwayne Allison, Dean of Student Affairs, noted the popularity of these events. “The activities occurring in the PUB have been very well received by families who have attended in the past, so much so that some return year after year to participate in the Casino Games and have their photos taken,” Allison said. He added, “This is a fun day for all.
The day will end with two movies sponsored by the Haven Activities Council. At 3:00 they will show the animated movie “WALL-E” in the PUB and at 7:00 they will show “Get Smart” in Price Performance Center.
Allison credited LHU students with the success of Family Day. He said, “I think that it is important to note that our current students are the ones who make Family Day possible.” Allison said that the students put a great deal of effort in making Family Day “welcoming, exciting, and comfortable for the families of our students.”
The Family Day schedule of events is subject to change. Updated information is available at www.lhup.edu/student_activities/calendar.htm
